McCauley Electrical is a family-owned electrical contractor based in Castleton-On-Hudson, New York, serving Rensselaer County, Albany County, Saratoga County, Columbia County, and the surrounding Capital Region. Founded by Charles J. McCauley in 2004, the business has grown from a one-truck operation into an established electrical contractor with a second service area around Great Sacandaga Lake. How We Started

Charles started McCauley Electrical with a simple idea. Capital Region homeowners and business owners deserved an electrician who showed up when he said he would, gave honest estimates, did quality work, and stood behind it. In 2004, that was not a given. It still is not a given in the trades today.

Twenty-plus years later the business runs on the same principles. We do not chase every job. We do not upsell. We do not use high-pressure sales tactics. We look at your electrical situation, tell you honestly what it needs, give you a written estimate, and do the work to code. If we cannot do the job for a fair price on a reasonable timeline, we tell you that too.

Charles J. McCauley is the owner and licensed master electrician. He still works in the field, still meets customers, still pulls permits under his own license. He holds a New York Class A Electrician credential through the City of Albany Department of Buildings & Regulatory Compliance, which is the top residential and commercial electrical license available in the city.

The rest of the crew includes experienced journeyman electricians, apprentices in training, and office staff who answer the phone during business hours. Small team, consistent faces, real accountability.

What Makes Us Different

We are local

Based in Castleton-On-Hudson, on the east side of the Hudson River between Albany and Hudson. We work in the Capital Region because we live here. Our customers are our neighbors.

We are experienced

Over 20 years of electrical work across thousands of Capital Region homes and businesses. We have seen almost every electrical situation you can walk into, from knob-and-tube rewiring in 19th-century Troy homes to ground-up commercial buildouts in Warren Street Hudson.

We are licensed and credentialed

We carry a current City of Albany Class A Electrician license, which is publicly verifiable on the Albany Electrical Examining Board roster. Most Capital Region electricians do not carry this credential. It matters for permit work in Albany and it signals the level of competency we bring to every job.

We are fully insured

Commercial general liability, auto, and workers' compensation coverage in force. Certificate of Insurance available on request for commercial customers and property managers who need it for their records.

We are honest

Written estimates before work starts. Real diagnosis before we replace parts. No inventing problems to pad invoices. No pressure to add scope. If you get a quote from us and a lower quote from someone else, we will tell you if the difference is because they are cutting corners you should care about or because their overhead is lower.

How We Work

Residential and commercial electrical work across the Capital Region:

  • Residential services include panel upgrades, EV charger installation, whole-home generator installation, hot tub wiring, landscape lighting, general repairs and troubleshooting, new construction, and major renovation. We work on everything from fuse boxes in century-old Troy Victorians to modern smart-home pre-wires in Clifton Park new builds.
  • Commercial services include retail and restaurant buildouts, office rewires, medical and dental office electrical, LED retrofits, emergency and exit lighting, code corrections, and commercial generator installation. We work with general contractors, property managers, and small business owners directly.
  • Service areas include the full Capital Region (Albany, Troy, Clifton Park, Ballston Spa, Hudson, Colonie, and surrounding areas) plus Fulton County around Great Sacandaga Lake through our second service area.

Our "Street Light" on the back of our VFW building was smoking and then blew the fuse. I contacted Chris McCauley and he came over the next morning. He knew that it was the ballast that had gone bad. I asked him to replace the old "Street Light" type light with a modern LED light that would stay on dusk to dawn instead of changing the faulty ballast. Chris got an appropriate light fixture and then arrived at the scheduled date and time to install the new light fixture. Chris had everything needed for the installation and had it installed shortly after arriving. I drove to the VFW Post at 10 PM that night and found the light on and perfectly adjusted.
